New 2024 NWSL Team Kits Ranked By Fan Engagement

This offseason, all 14 NWSL teams and Nike launched new home and away jerseys for the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League season. On February 27th,Teams revealed their new jerseys on social media, getting an instant reaction from fans. 

Combining all team and NWSL uniform content that day, the league generated 12.6 million impressions, 300 thousand engagements and $231 thousand in social value in one day. This season the league revealed all the new uniforms on the same day and also made news by getting rid of white shorts to better accommodate female athletes. Compared to last season’s new jersey launches, which were spread out over several weeks, impressions were up 46%, engagement was up 22% and social value was up 31%. This exposure is not only good marketing for the league and teams ahead of season kickoff, but gives an offseason boost to brands like NWSL sleeve sponsor Ally and club front-of-kit partners.

San Diego Wave FC

The San Diego Wave made a huge splash with their colorful new kits. San Diego is one of the newest NWSL teams, but were the top team on social media during the 2023 season according to Zoomph. All the hype around the jerseys also translated to sales, as according to their VP and Head of Marketing Justyne Freud, the two new kits had over six figures in sales on launch day, a 575% increase compared to 2023’s launch day sales.

Portland Thorns FC

Sponsor: Providence | 40.4K engagements | 743K impressions | $21K social value 
The Portland Thorns are another popular NWSL team with one of the biggest social media followings in the league. They revealed two very different color ways for their new secondary and primary kits. With an established fan base and stars like 2023 Golden Boot winner Sophia Smith wearing these looks, they’ll be sure to get some good exposure this season.

Seattle Reign FC

Sponsor: Black Future Co-op Fund | 32.1K engagements | 1.74M impressions | $28.6K social value 
With a new name comes a new look, and the rebranded OL Reign’s debut of their first Seattle Reign FC kits was met with a lot of positive fan engagement. Their launch focused on their primary kit, the deep blue Reflection Kit featuring the reimagined crest.

Angel City FC

Angel City FC has made a big impact on the NWSL in their few years as a franchise, showcasing the power of women’s sports and inspiring other expansion teams with their immediate success. The Sol jersey in their signature pale pink was coupled with an additional darker Moonlight kit, a showcase of both team colors for what’s sure to be another big season in LA.

Utah Royals FC

The Washington Spirit are in the process of a full rebrand, set to be complete in 2025, but for now they unveiled new color ways for the 2024 season. Last year’s black and white color pallet is now black and yellow, featuring front-of-kit sponsor CVS Health and their new sleeve sponsor SNICKERS.

Orlando Pride

The Orlando Pride also went big and bold for 2024, inspired by Florida oranges for their home kit and sticking with their purple team color for their secondary. Based solely on the NWSL’s posts, the Orlando Pride’s jersey earned the most engagement on NWSL accounts, indicating positive sentiment from the wider NWSL fan base.

KC Current
