Meet the Team: Vicky Roberts, Senior Data Analyst

At Zoomph, we know that innovation starts with people. That’s why we’re proud to spotlight the talented minds that help define our mission and support your goals. Our “Meet the Team” Q&A series offers a behind-the-scenes look at the people driving our success, highlighting their skills, insights, and unique perspectives. Get to know the people that shape our culture and power Zoomph.

Starting simple, give us your backstory and how you’ve gotten to your place today at Zoomph.

I was born and raised in Northern Virginia. I grew up with sports all around me – the Capitals’ practice rink was down the street from where I lived, and I remember the buzz around the new Nationals Park. Though I was not gifted with the athletic gene, I have always loved watching sports (I’m a Nats, Caps, Packers, and F1 fan).

I went to the College of William & Mary, where I majored in Applied Mathematics with a focus in Statistics. William & Mary isn’t a big sports school, but I enjoyed attending games to support our teams and became interested in player/team stats. This made me realize that I wanted to combine my love for math with my love for sports as a career. Scott Lewis (now VP of Business Intelligence at NYCFC) hired me as a CRM Coordinator and Analyst at the Baltimore Orioles. I was there for a couple of years and then was lucky enough to be hired by Scott again at Zoomph!

What does a day in your life at Zoomph look like?

Working on any and all reports clients may need! These include monthly reports, end-of-season recaps, event recaps, and marketability reports. I appreciate how diverse our client base is because I can be working on a report for a traditional sports team one day and working on (and learning) about a new sporting event the next!

What is your favorite part about working at Zoomph?

The culture. Though we all work remotely, everyone is great at communicating with one another to make sure things get done. Whether that be for client asks or just internal improvements, everyone at all levels is eager to help and better the company.

What is a professional accomplishment that you are extremely proud of?

Helping implement better projected impression estimates. When I first started at Zoomph, it had been a while since formulas for projected impressions were improved on. Using regression models, I have been able to improve our projected impressions formulas to provide better estimates on unauthenticated data in the platform for our clients.

What is one goal you’re currently working towards professionally?

Speaking at more conferences. I truly enjoy what I do as an analyst and want to be able to share my experiences and passion with the next generation of data analysts. I’m fortunate enough to have represented Zoomph at the SEME Conference at American University and the Maryland Sports Business Conference so far this year.

What is your favorite product function or tip you can share about Zoomph’s platform?

I love the export features – post data exports, brand exports, and report exports. I’m able to dive deeper into the data through these exports using Excel formulas. Some common ones I use are SUM, AVERAGE, and VLOOKUP. You don’t have to have a strong knowledge of these formulas, though – there are a lot of resources online that can help you find the formula to get the data you need!

Why are you a believer in Zoomph and its product?

I see firsthand how hard each one of us works to provide the best experience to our clients. Any piece of feedback or praise is communicated to the whole team – we want to be the best product out there!

Do you have any pets? Tell us everything you want us to know about them!

I have a 3-year-old golden retriever named Jax! He is the most loving, cuddly, expressive, goofy boy. He loves playing fetch, eating pup cups, wrestling with his dad, and snuggling on the couch with me. He is also a fan of routine – If I’m working past 5, he’ll come to my office to remind me to find the balance between working hard and playing hard (AKA time for us to play fetch in the backyard)!

What is your favorite TV show?

The Office! It is mine and my husband’s go-to wind-down show after a day of work. We get some good laughs in despite it being the one thousandth time we’ve watched it. We make references to the show or quote the show daily. We’re hoping to make a trip to Scranton in the fall to check out all things The Office there!

What is your most memorable sports moment?

I have two for this:

One of my most memorable sports moments was attending Nats v Astros Game 3 of the World Series at Nats Park. The energy at a World Series game is indescribable. Even though we lost that game (but ended up winning the WS), the whole city was buzzing with excitement and pride!

My second is going to a Green Bay Packers game at Lambeau Field in 2017. It was so cool experiencing a football game in the dead of winter freezing our butts off in an iconic stadium. I remember feeling my face slowly defrosting once we arrived back at the hotel. I want to go back for another game soon!
