Zoomph Social Media Dynamos: NFLOctober 10, 2013
NFL Engagement Power Rankings
With the NFL season fully underway, chatter about all 32 teams is dominating social conversations. But teams have very different strategies for driving engagement and attracting fans. Zoomph wanted to offer its opinion on the top three teams that we think are standing out by creatively reaching out to fans in effective and unusual ways.
1) San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers lead the NFL when it comes to followers on Instagram, and they understand the power of social influencers by commonly re-posting their players’ photos. During last year’s playoffs, they also instigated a marketing campaign built around a #questfor6 hashtag that highlighted their 5 Super Bowl Championships, a clever way to transform past success into future interest. The social media volume of likes, tweets, and retweets reveals that the 49ers are resonating with their fans strongly, and they will reap the rewards.
2) New England Patriots
Before each game, the Patriots invite fans to participate in a ‘virtual tailgate’ wherein the best social content is read during a radio broadcast discussing the game. Moves like this are a great way to make fans feel that they are closely involved with the team.
3) Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jaguars recently launched an online “Social League” that gives away prizes (including free tickets) to fans who engage with the team the most on social media sites, an excellent way to rewards their most devoted customers. And as this blog recently noted, they also constructed a “Fan Cave” in their stadium that facilitates social media engagement while people are at the game.
