Social Slam Dunk! The Top Tweets from Game 6 of the NBA Finals

The 2015 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors was the MOST-watched NBA Finals since the Michael Jordan glory-days (cue: Space Jam, anyone?). So it should be no surprise that Twitter was ON FIRE. When looking at the Twitter activity during Game 6 ONLY, we collected more than 118 THOUSAND tweets (at the time of publishing). Those tweets had a total of 194 thousand ZPoints® and reached MORE THAN 730 million people. Clearly, this game impacted A LOT of people.

With the Golden State Warriors taking the crown, let’s take a look at how Twitter reacted to Game 6 and what tweets dominated our timelines.

5. Two Words: Riley Curry

Let’s be honest, Riley Curry was the REAL star of the 2015 NBA Finals. I mean, amiright? Watching her in post-game interviews, kissing her grandfather and passing her gum off to an Oracle Arena employee was more entertaining than the halftime shows. BUT – nothing was cuter than her reaction to her dad’s excitement. And, @NBALiveTV1 knew what was up! Riley’s precious reaction scored more ZPoints® than the Cavs’ bench, a total of 68. Riley – if you need a babysitter, you can always call us 🙂

4. #AssistoftheNight

Stephen Curry, the 2015 NBA MVP, proved title-worthy over and over again. The @NBA chose this SICK assist from Curry to Finals MVP, Iguodala, for what they declared #AssistoftheNight. And the Twitters agreed! 135 ZPoints® makes this our 4th biggest tweet of the night.

3. MVP! MVP!

Everyone loves the underdog. And last night, when Andre Iguodala was named finals MVP, Twitter erupted in praise. Iguodala came off the bench to begin the series, BUT – that didn’t stop him from making a HUGE impact. Iguodala finished the series with averages of 16.3 points, four assists and 5.8 rebounds. In Game 6, he scored 25 points and added five rebounds and five assists. This @Warriors Tweet was well-received, scoring a whopping 140 ZPoints®.

2. Rookie of the Year

The @NBA knows how to make its fans feel as if they are a part of the action! That’s why this Steve-Kerr inspired Vine generated 143 ZPoints®. Fans also love inspiring stories. Kerr winning a championship in his ROOKIE season? Now that’s a story for the history books.

1. Squad Goals

The BIGGEST Tweet of the night? Clearly this Vine! Who wouldn’t want a champagne shower after being named the world champions? 7,735 retweets and 8,365 favorites later, this @Warriors post, using just #SQUAD for its caption earned 160 ZPoints®. Hey GSW – we’d be more than happy to party with you at ANY time. Just saying.

Warriors Golden State Top Tweets

After 40 years, the drought has ended. This was truly the year of the Warriors. And the numbers don’t lie – America was watching and participating in the social conversation. Let’s do it again in 2016! #DubNation.
