But with numbers like that, it takes a lot to stand out on Instagram. That’s why we have hand-picked and selected our Double Tap List: a list of the 5 most innovative and creative brands that are setting the standard for social media marketing, and make us want to double tap.

What makes users ‘drawn’ to Sharpie (sorry, we had to) is that they’ve done away with bland traditional marketing and asked fans to share their own artwork—all created in Sharpie markers of course!
Sharpie’s Instagram is not compelling just because of the vivid use of color and call to fans. It’s great because it’s creative, puts social media engagement at its core, and integrates its own product seamlessly. The fans are the center of the story. What’s not to love?
Paypal takes on the same vein as @Sharpie by encouraging fans to be the storytellers. But the @Paypal page is interesting because it does a great re-imagining of a somewhat less-than-sexy product. When you think of Paypal, you think of money transfers. But when you see @Paypal on Instagram, you get to see real-world photo life experiences that are made possible from people using Paypal money.
Paypal also takes social media engagement one step further, giving photographers complete access into its account. Paypal calls these “guest instagrammers”, but they’re really social media influencers promoting Paypal’s brand organically.
@Burberry’s account tagline is “A 165-year old global brand with a distinctly British attitude.” Though they may clout their ‘old-school ways’, Burberry removes traditional advertising in lieu of modern tactics, giving runway access and behind-the-scenes looks from international fashion shows. By providing a glimpse into the real world of style and fashion, audiences now associate high-glamour—not just coats and perfume— with the Burberry name. Not too shabby for a century-old brand.
It seems like a cheat to have Oreo on this list. It’s like, “We get it. Oreo is great at social media marketing. Enough already!” But the @Oreo Instagram kills it because they are the first to really make good use of Instagram Video.
@Oreo’s creation of ‘Snack Hacks’, a series of 15-second Oreo recipes, is cute, fun, and even integrates some catchy design work. As one of the first companies to truly do Instagram Videos right, @Oreo creates marketing content without the selling—solidifying its title as the King of Social.
Ok, so Ellen Degeneres is not a brand, per se. But The Ellen Show is the most popular page on Instagram with more 3.05 million followers. Besides featuring ‘best of moments’ that showcase a fly-on-the-wall look at our favorite stars, her staff also does a great job of responding to commenters to create a conversation. And for that, she deserves her #1 status.
